1.13. AIMS

The aims of this project were:

  1. to test for significant differences in TaqI A allele frequencies and incidences between populations, specifically, the control and the alcoholic populations. This was to be achieved by use of the polymerase chain reaction and a restriction enzyme digest to identify TaqI A genotype in individuals;

  2. to test the TaqI A genotype in individuals in a control population, alcoholic populations and a Burmese population and to assign each individual tested as either A1A1, A1A2 or A2A2;

  3. to compare the present results with previously published results, and to compare previously published results in a meta-analysis;

  4. to use a microsatellite marker in addition to the TaqI A polymorphism to assess linkage disequilibrium in the DRD2 gene.
